Egypt: Will a native translate this into Arabic please?

This kinda came up when my cozs and I discussed sports and politics last night, would you marry someone who isn’t patriotic?or keeps bashing this country?

Honestly, in my humble opinion, loving your country is loving your faith, if one of em is missing, the other one is too. What kinda example would that set for your kids to come?

omg noo..no matter how bad the government is or how bad the pollution or ANYTHING…loving your country and appreciating it for all that it is is and all it has given to you is so important,

i’de never marry anyone who bashes it, :S i wouldn’t marry anyone who bashes any country honestly…but saying bad stuff about your own country is really bad….especially cause my parents instilled in me how important it is to love my roots and where i come from..and i do <3 , so i know how important it is for me to pass that on to my kids in the future isa..

Egypt, Cairo, At what time does Heliopolis Sporting Club open in the morning?

2) What is your favorite sport to watch?
3) What is the sport you play the best? (not necessarily same as #1, but could be)
4) What is the sport you wish didn’t exist?
5) Name a sport you never heard of.

BQ: If you were to invent a new sport, what would you name it, and what would it consist of? (How to play it, rules, instructions, ingredients, etc..)

@ Roji: Sports are supposed to make your body look nice? What about chess?
@ Roji, yeah I know that quote, I have to go tell it to my fat professor :D
Bas ana el 3aks, I never one a single game of chess,,, :’(
@ YO: How can you not know squash?? Egyptians are number 1 in squash in the world, and squash is my favorite sport and best sport I play. Squash: http://thiagodefreitas.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Squash.jpg
@ Dal: It already exists: Waterpolo..

1. Soccer
2. Soccer
3. Soccer–Even though I’m not particularly amazing or anything.
4. N/A—but I bet most people on here are going to say football.
5. How could I name a sport I’ve never heard of if I’ve never heard of it…

If the game Monkey in the Middle was a sport that would be cool. You’d have people on either side of the field. The goal of the people in the middle is to intercept the ball from the people passing it back and forth.
6 people on each team—-6 people from one team in the middle…and 6 people (split into groups of 3) on either side
Ingredients? One ball and a bunch of people with nothing to do.

why we consider Egypt as a one of the main destinations for Golfers?

Egypt is qualified to be one of the most important golf centers in the world since it enjoys an ideal climate and is distinguished on all countries of the Mediterranean by its clear weather all over the year and especially in winter.
Not only playing golf, but also enjoying moderate climate coupled with unique sightseeing and excursions in Ancient Egypt places and magnificent Resorts In Egypt, the weather is almost certain to accommodate ones desire to play golf (and perhaps, sight seeing, shopping and other activities might accommodate a bored spouse at the same time).
No where else in the world can one play golf in the shadows of the Great Pyramids, or play 18 holes in the morning, and then visit the mountain where Moses passed down the ten commandments in the afternoon.
The presence of various tourist sites in Egypt is another important factor that contributes to the flourishing of this sport in the future.
One of the closest and nicest golf courses in Egypt, is that one located in Cairo. The golf course is situated in an area called Dream land, which is really a nice dream to enjoy. The magnificent golf course overlooks the superb view of the Giza Pyramids & Sphinx.
A little more towards the North, till you reach Alexandria, where golf courses there are of no exception. It’s said that the British originally started building this historical course at the " Alexandria sporting club", in the 19 th century, then restorations and renewals were made but the course still bares its charm.
Going to the Red Sea, exactly heading to El-Gouna or Sharm El-Sheikh, where vivid a course lies in an enchanting view. During your golf tournament in one of the magnificent courses there, you will be encircled by scenery for the exotic beaches of the Red Sea.
This time pack to the South, towards Luxor, city of mystery. Golf courses at Luxor are so unique, and identified by the picturesque scenes of the mountains and tombs of the Ancient Egyptian kings.
www.egypttravelers.com
From the previously mentioned points, we can safely say that Egypt has most, if not all of the main requirements to attract golf players or golf tourists from all over the world.

NO ONE in the golfing comminity cosiders Egypt aa a golf destination….plzzz

Has anyone been to both Turkey AND Egypt on holiday?

If so did you have a preference to either, i am looking to go in september, but im undecided – not necessarily for these two, but are currently our preferences (me + gf)

Like a whole lot of things, water sports, shops, markets, bars, restaurants etc, nice beaches but also historical sites too maybe general interest museums.

any ideas guys?

Yes,
It all depends on what you like to do; but here is the contrast in General:
Water Sports:
Both Destinations offer amazing options in water sports; costs are less in Egypt than they are in Turkey; and Scuba Diving/Snorkling in General is better in Egypt.
Shops and Markets:
Both destinations offer the traditional markets; The Turkish goods are generally higher in both quality and price; In Egypt the selection is larger; the prices are much less but its extremely difficult to find good quality. In both destinations prepare to Haggle as the goods are marked up to 3X what their market value is ; around 5X what the merchant purchases them for.

The same applies to bars and restaurants; again better quality in General in Turkey for meat dishes however the seafood in Egypt is galaxies better especially if you eat in a specialized restaurant.

The Egyptian beaches are superior; Especially in Sharm al Sheikh; El Gouna (Hurgada) and the North Coast. The water is extremely clean and crystal clear and the beaches are very very clean. Turkey does not offer any private beaches so be expected to smell a ton of meat being grilled walking around the beach.

Both desitinations have wealthy offers in terms of Museums; In Turkey its mostly Islamic; with a few byzentine options. In Egypt; You will have Islamic; Pharoanic and Greek type of Museums.

The Egyptian Museum is probably the most interesting of all.

If your planning on an Egyptian visit I would recommend:
1st day in Cairo ; 2 days visiting Egyptian Museum,Pyramids and any Islamic sites.
4th day going to either Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada for 5 days (Sharm is preffered if you like Scuba Diving) otherwise in Hurghada you can go to El Gouna or Marsa Alam
Then going by Alexandria to finish the visit.

If your going to Turkey I would recommend:
first two days in Istanbul visit the SultanAhmet and Aya Sofya (same spot).
4th day going to either Bodrum or Antalya (depending on the type of watersports you like)
Upon Return to Istanbul I would recommend visiting Yelova and Bursa

Why isn’t Egypt in the world cup?

Just wondering because I know that soccer is their national sport and they are quite good at it. Did they not qualify or did they not try out at all? Are any Egyptian players playing for other teams?

Correct, Egypt did not qualify for the world cup this year. They were in a qualifying bracket with Algeria, Zambia, and Rwanda and Algeria won the bracket for the World Cup bid. South Africa lost their bracket, but they are the host so they are permitted to play.

Egypt::do u hate it when sports commentators are biased to a certain team?

i really hate it when iam watching a match and the sports comentator is cheering strongly one of the teams specially the team that iam not cheering…it becomes really irritating….i think the best comentators are those who comment unbiased even if they are at one of the sides at least they don’t distract the ppl who watch and hear him!! :@

does this bother you too or…..??

just wondering,

thanks.
……………………………….
@G.#2….u needn’t mock the question to make a point….
for eaxmple, when we were playing in the africa the arab commentators on el jazeera were coldly commenting in our gams , it was obvious they weren’t supporting us unlike their way of supporting algeria whether in africa or in the world cup …..
and it also goes with our national tv when they comment on the match sometimes from the way they comment u can detect which team they are supporting specially in the ahly and zamalek matches!!!
and in all algerian matches the guys who are commenting , they weren’t commenting on the match rather they were cheering the team so strongly as if their families are playing ,and even u can feel he is gonna cry during the match…LOOOOL , it is really inervating , i watched the match today with the english comment and the foreign commentator wasn’t biased at all …..and that is what iam talking about , the sport commentator should be neutral and leaves the audiance to cheer ,……
his job is to comment and help the audiance to be amuzed and it isn’t his job to support a team and show it obvious that way and put the team the audiance throat just because he is supposing that the majority are supporting the X team!!
(that is what iam talking about).!!

Yeah. They should be neutral.

Some questions on ancient and modern egypt?

similarities between ancient and modern egyptian government?
similarities between ancient and modern egyptian sports?

everything is the same .
Egyptians dont like change .
we even have the same SHAM EL NESEEM !
only names and alphabets are different , but the essence is the same .
we still eat salted fish , spring onions , garlic , and lentils .
we like dancing with sticks .
why change tried things that contribute to our greatness and health ?

The costs of clothing, Food, etc. in Egypt?

How much would stuff like regular food and sports jersey cost in cairo, I wanted to watch the world cup there.

"Regular" food? Not sure what you consider regular food. Americanized food or regular Egyptian food? Food at like McDonald’s or Hardees will be about 30 pounds per person. An Egyptian sandwich or Koshari is much cheaper at between 1 pound to 5 pounds. A liter bottle of pepsi is about 4 pounds and a small bottle of water is about 1.50 – 2 pounds

A good quality jersey will cost between 300 and 600 pounds. Of course you can find much cheaper ones from street vendors but also the quality is cheaper as well.

Have fun.

Ancient Egypt Project Help?

Okay, I need some help ere’.

I’m well underway in this project, however, I still need help with a couple of things.

1.- When did the Ancient Egypt Civilization begin & end?

2.-What did they have for sport, entertainment or recreation.

3.- What kind of foods did they eat?

4.- What sort of buildings existed and what materials were used?

These are the only things I need help with. Thankyou.
And yeah, I don’t just want links. I want information, damnation.
Yeah, just good information.

Ancient Egypt was an ancient civilization of eastern North Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River in what is now the modern country of Egypt. The civilization coalesced around 3150 BC[1] with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under the first pharaoh, and it developed over the next three millennia.[2] Its history occurred in a series of stable Kingdoms, separated by periods of relative instability known as Intermediate Periods. Ancient Egypt reached its pinnacle during the New Kingdom, after which it entered a period of slow decline. Egypt was conquered by a succession of foreign powers in this late period, and the rule of the pharaohs officially ended in 31 BC when the early Roman Empire conquered Egypt and made it a province.[3]

The success of ancient Egyptian civilization stemmed partly from its ability to adapt to the conditions of the Nile River Valley. The predictable flooding and controlled irrigation of the fertile valley produced surplus crops, which fueled social development and culture. With resources to spare, the administration sponsored mineral exploitation of the valley and surrounding desert regions, the early development of an independent writing system, the organization of collective construction and agricultural projects, trade with surrounding regions, and a military intended to defeat foreign enemies and assert Egyptian dominance. Motivating and organizing these activities was a bureaucracy of elite scribes, religious leaders, and administrators under the control of a pharaoh who ensured the cooperation and unity of the Egyptian people in the context of an elaborate system of religious beliefs.[4][5]

The many achievements of the ancient Egyptians include the quarrying, surveying and construction techniques that facilitated the building of monumental pyramids, temples, and obelisks; a system of mathematics, a practical and effective system of medicine, irrigation systems and agricultural production techniques, the first known ships,[6] Egyptian faience and glass technology, new forms of literature, and the earliest known peace treaty.[7] Egypt left a lasting legacy. Its art and architecture were widely copied, and its antiquities carried off to far corners of the world. Its monumental ruins have inspired the imaginations of travellers and writers for centuries. A newfound respect for antiquities and excavations in the early modern period led to the scientific investigation of Egyptian civilization and a greater appreciation of its cultural legacy, for Egypt and the world.

How to stop tightening grip of Wahhabism over Kosovo and its spreading in Europe ?

Wahhabis are allegedly paying poor people to wear visible signs of Islam. According to local sources the alleged rate today varies from 100 Euro to 300 Euro per month depending on how much of face or body is covered in Islamic clothing.
Money talks and it sure does as is evident with its contribution to the replacement of moderate Islam in Kosovo with the financing of Islamic studies trips for youngsters. After a stint of such religious learning abroad in Saudi Arabia or Egypt, lasting around six to 12 months, the youngsters upon returning back in Kosovo sport Islamic beards and robes instead of their jeans.
The mix of Saudi Wahhabism with their oil money is proving dangerous to the world.

http://www.savekosovo.org/default.asp?p=4

to captainA:
You are deliberately forgetting, that Kosovo IS Serbia and that is OUR problem.

Only on a level of united Europe. Radical Muslims are a global threat.

When you have USA backing them up, that is even a bigger threat.

The biggest threat is when you have Europe against you as well.

Even bigger than that is when you have American poltroons and payees in your own country, trying to sell the property of the people and put extra money in their private pockets.

Another solution is to convert into Muslim religion and be a bigger Muslim than the Muslims themselves. That way, we could destroy Europe together with the Muslims, for not having helped us when we most needed it.

Finally, when the Chinese appear, we convert to whichever religion they are by then.

:)

Moving from USA to Cairo – Where are the best areas in Cairo Egypt to live? Safest, most quiet, cleanest?

I am relocating to Cairo in a week or so. I am in professional sport and will be running an academy based there. I will be paid what seems to be a fairly considerable amount of money on their/Egypt standards, just under $100K USD per year. What are the nicest, cleanest, safest, most modern and if possible the most quiet places to live in Cairo, perhaps with international "flavor" and not necessarily an expat community.?. I have also heard that buying a car can be a very very expensive endeavor there. Is this accurate and what brands seem to be more expensive/less expensive? While I have your attention, as far as outfitting my home/apt/condo, what household items are expensive and what are typical and reasonable? Is there an area that I can live where I don’t necessarily need a car at all? Where I can walk to and from everything I need conveniently? Is it realistic to hire a driver/car service for daily trips to and from work? Thanks for your feedback. Bill

Hi Bill,

Well, you have to be one hell of a sports coach to make $100K, that is a lot of money here. Anyway, let me tackle your questions;

1- The most important thing is for you to live near your work cause Cairo is a big city and is very congested. You dont want to spend several hours a day driving to and back from work, so find out where the academy is located and will provide you with the best neighbourhood where u can reside. If you prefer not to get into the details then the logical order is as follows;

- Maadi – clean, green, pubs, restaurants, lots of expats, expensive.
- Zamalek – central location, lots of restaurants etc
- El Sheikh Zayed – new suburb, a little far from everything but quiet, clean, beautiful new homes and a great community.

- Buying a car can be expensive cause of the high customs. Egypt is one of the most expensive countries when it comes t buying a car, but u will more than make up for it cause gas is 25 cents. Buying a car can be tricky, imported cars are the most expensive, it really boils down to your budget. Below are a few examples for how much brand new cars cost in U.S$

- Toyota Corolla 1.6l = $25,000
- BMW 320 2.0L = $61,000
- Hyundai Elantra= $16,000

I am including a link below to a site that has the prices for most cars available in the market, go through the site and choose based on your budget.

You will need a car, trust me on this one, public transportation system is terrible her. It is one of those countries where u must have a car. It would be a good idea to hire a driver, I would highly recommend u do so cause it will save u the hassle of driving in the busy streets and finding a place to park, driver wont cost u much, should be around $200 a month.

On the household front, you should try and rent a furnished apartment. Most apartments that are listed for rent are usually fully furnished, furniture is rather expensive here and there is no Ikea yet. In general most stuff except for consumer goods are more expensive because of custom duties. So, anything imported will be on the expensive side, locally produced stuff will be cheap. You will be surprised at how cheap food and beverages are cheap here.

Hope the above covers your question, feel free to add more, I am sure u have tons.

Best of luck

Congratulations to Team Pakistan,Congratulations to the United States and Comeserations to Egypt?

Well it’s been a roller coaster of a two weeks for sport
From Mohamed Homos’ stunning match winning header for the Pharaohs, the first in 15 attempts from Africa to beat Italy
against the world champions the Azzuari. A big big shock and well deserved. No more no less. Pakistan’s Twenty20 win at Lord’s against Sri Lanka to the Red White and Blue’s win against Egypt. I didnt see the match myself so i can’t say if they deserved the match or not even if it was 3-0.
In my opinion both teams deserved to go through but my personal favourite was Egypt
Never the less Congratulations to the United States
these moments bring happiness and are worth gold to some so cherish
them and remember them, because sometimes these great moments are not repeated however long it maybe
They are worth remembering.
They bring so much joy emotican and excitement
I still remember Turkey’s raid on European football like it was yesturday
These memories will live long in my memory for ever more.

And how about you guys?
What did you think about these events in the last few weeks?
How many of you watched these games

I just hope the Lions can beat South Africa in the next test!
God Bless

Pakistan thoroughly deserved their win .Having been thrashed by England earlier they showed some character to come back from that ordeal. Well done.

The Pool World Cup Tournament is set to be launched in the Sunrise Beach – Hurghada on August 27, 2007.

The event is organized by the Akhbar al-Yom Third World Foundation.

17 Egyptian players are competing in the three-day tournament.

Only 13 out of a total of 84 playing in the preliminaries will make it to the finals.

Because of their international seeding, 19 players have already become finalists, bringing the number of those competing in the finals to 32.

Egyptians are hard bent on securing advanced places. It is to be noted that Ihab al-Misiri and Sameh Sidhum are already in the finals
and 3.

Do you really love Egypt, our country?

I can’t say I love it, because I don’t feel like it is home. And home is where I’m loved. We’re not loved, appreciated, respected or welcomed in our country. No real freedom, no international charisma, we’re hated from everyone, we only cheer for Egypt in sports. Everyday disasters happen and we don’t care, but people got depressed since we were disqualified. I can’t say I love it, I also can’t say I can. I don’t know really what to say or feel anymore about this country. I am 17 years old and I am in engineering college, I am disappointed at everything I am seeing there, I am disappointed at everything I saw before it. I am disappointed at this whole country and I feel betrayed. I don’t feel "Home", I just don’t. I tell myself its normal, you shouldn’t be all pro-nationalism, it is religion what matters, you can’t even practice it well here…… Tell me your answer and reason for it..
If loving my country is like loving a girl, I’d be ashamed to be an Egyptian….

I love many aspects of Egypt! First, the Egyptian Arabic has a soft, musical sound. The people are very diverse and very flexible. No charisma?? Think again! Nothing is more interesting than the history of Egypt, much of which lives today. If you don’t agree with your government, live to try to make changes, but remember to embrace your culture and know everything you can about your country. It has a rich past and most people I know would love to go there.

Going to Egypt on a budget?

Me and 4 friends are planning a trip to Egypt with 5000 American dollars each and we need some ideas of places to go. We really want to see some neat cultural places but we also want to see some places related to sports or activities. We need to go during a holiday so that we have school off but we’re not sure what times of year are holidays in Egypt. Any ideas?
Does anybody care?

I’ve been to Egypt before and trust me, 5000$ us is A LOT of money. You can start in Cairo and see the Great pyramid of Giza, you can take a cruise on the Nile, very beautifull, lost of mosquitos so make sure you bring some off with you. Then you can catch a flight to Luxor where ou can go visit the Valley of the Kings and the Museum. The flight is about 60$. If you also want to visit another place, so to Abu Simbel, also take a flight. It’s about 40km from Sudan. It’s very beautiful. The poeple will try to rip you off with prices, so always bargain. What ever they name you as a price, tell yourself that you can cut the price in half (even that they are ripping you off). If youw ant something, tell yourself that even if you say NO, they will run after you, so don’t be scared. If you are travelling with women, make sure, at least in Cairo to be fully dressed, t-shirts, no tank tops or cleavage shirts and always pants or long skirts. They might be harassed by men and women will look at them bad. I had water thrown on me in the market. There are other places too that are awesome. What i’ve named you are the "archaeological" places. When youtake cab, always ask for the price first. Bargain the cab ride as well, there will always be another cabby willing to take you in for cheaper then the other. They are crazy drivers, INSANE, but amazing.

Good luck, you might have a better time in Marroco though.

I’m goin to egypt soon and would like to know where I can find a game of soocer to play in?

Are there sports clubs that let people play soccer, (football)?

You can play from Cairo football side.
