why are Christians so dumb?

In a liberated society, freedom of conscience facilitates the progression of civilization. A purport of the notion of freedom of mind, Science provides an analytical method for our mere human minds to come to grasp with that which is the beauty of the infinitesimal universe around us. That is, until ignorant folks attempt to squash, main, and silence the voice of reason.

A recent anecdote illustrates my frustration with the very people who undermine scientific inquiry. I go to school in the South, where ignorance is the fashion of the day and any droplet of intellectual curiosity is squandered by the religious right. Free thinkers are herded by the sheep of the masses into conforming to the norm. From a young age children are taught not to question authority, no to question morality, not to question the essence of life. Scientific methods are obfuscated in favor of Creationist dribble.

So I found myself recent in a debate amongst students in my senior level Biology class. My instructor was incessant that evolution was wrong and he was trying to prove to the students that the geological record supported the theory of a great flood and he abridged the great 4,600,000,000 year span of geological time into a mere 6000. Religion seeped into the classroom only to perverse the minds of the student body. Christianity was a moral puppet and anyone who had a different world view was ostracized. Furthermore, many of these same children can’t grasp the basic fundamentals of modern science that allow us to live in such a technologically progressive society. How are they to be imparted upon lessons of logic and analytical reasoning when they believe in the fairy tale of god.

In short, Christians are ignorant douche bags.

I guess it is your misunderstanding. There have been so many great scientists from christian families. I don’t think all christians are dumb or all christians are intelligent.

No not all. People have the right to believe whatever the hell they want to. I think the douche bag is you. Why can’t you just accept that people will have their own beliefs on whether a god exists or not. And why do you pick on Christians? There are tons of other religions out there not just Christianity. I think that if you have a bone to pick with religion at least do it universally and not just one religion. I think you need to take a few courses in ethics to teach how to be accepting of all people and their beliefs whether you agree with them or not.

Okay, generalizing all Christians as ignorant and douche bags is retarded.Though a lot of Christan’s can come off as close minded, it doesn’t mean they don’t know anything, or that they are assholes. If you had everyone breathing down your neck about your religion and insulting you about it, i highly doubt you would feel open about sharing your ideas. This is angering not just because I’m a christian myself, but because you fell like you can generalize like this. Fuck you.

Most of the time, I come to realize the most honest people in the world are Atheists and Agnostics. Christianity influences dishonesty and idiocy like that. God is, like you said, a fairy tale, and not much more. I’m sorry, but sometimes I refuse to believe that there’s a huge man holding up the universe. Adam and Eve make no sense. Noah’s ark makes no sense. None of the Christian ‘myths’ make any sense at all, whatsoever.

Not to mention that, from the day a child is born, this retardation is drilled into their head. I live with the same crap as you, no one sees reality, apparently. Everyone is Miss "Married to Jesus" or Mister "Son of God". Your question is a rant, but I have things to rant on, too. A human’s potential lies unreleased and confined as Christianity is the roadblock. Anything Nonchristian is ridiculous.

Profanity. You know how they are supposedly ‘cursed’? They were all invented FROM Christianity. Saying d@mn makes you a demon? Before d@mn was cussing, it was a widely accepted word. Is Christianity an execration in itself, or is it a so-called "miracle"? I’d call it a curse. It’s done more bad than it’s ever done good.

This 2012 crap about the world ending. This old idiot based it off the bible. The bible has been edited and proofed by hundreds (if not upon thousands) of perverse and powerhungry men. Rant over. Thank you for writing this. All the best.

While it is sad that religion limits people like that, they have as much of a right to spew their creationist dribble as you are allowed to preach about Darwin. Although scientists throughout time have used logic to figure out how the universe works, a large amount of them have simply been theories. These theories make sense, but it just takes another, more rational theory to shatter our world view. While I would love to believe the big bang theory, or the theory of evolution, they are what they are, theories. The arguments are very logical, but it just takes one discovery to make us question it. Einstein’s theory of relativity makes a lot of sense in my mind, but what if some scientist somehow managed to prove that newtonian mechanics applied throughout the universe? The seemingly rational theory was wrong. The earth is a flat plane. The sun revolves around us. they made sense at some time, no way you could deny the truth. Some dude decides to challenge the church and disprove those ideas. Good for him.
Christians and religious people in general have managed to make very valid arguments to try to prove that there is a god. Good for them, they are thinking independently and making a contribution to the beautiful science of philosophy. However, the masses are generally blinded by their leaders or their inability to comprehend certain scientific beliefs, these people are not independent thinkers, and I pity them. They are not blinded by their holy books or their gods, they simply choose to limit themselves. Religious thinkers are still independent thinkers, from their point of view you are the ignorant ass who is insulting their philosophy, with your closed mind and your unwillingness to see a different perspective. Religious ideas are just as valid as scientific ideas, don’t insult a valid philosophy just because you hate the ignorant masses who know as little about their own religion as you do. You are just as hypocritical as they are, gain some perspective.

You can’t be very smart yourself if you think this question belongs in the Beauty & Style section.
Anyway, I’m an atheist myself, but I don’t see the point in degrading others beliefs. That’s the reason I was turned off by religion in the first place, because I kept running into people who would put down others’ views. Just calm down and be tolerant.
Also calling names doesn’t help you prove a point well.

Environment makes a man dumb or intelligent. An american christian child may be entirely different from the child who was born in Africa. All depends on the people around you.

Environment no doubt makes a man intelligent but sometimes you are inherited with some qualities. There are some children who are mentally retarded and some who have inherited better understanding of mathematics. So you can not classify them by religion.
