Playing squash and drinking whey protein. Does it work?

I want to build up some muscle but don’t like going to gym. Although I am crazy of racket sports like squash. Will I build up some muscle if I drink whey protein after playing an hour squash game? Is it effective?

Whey protein, is very effective at building muscle. Make sure you also add some push ups, free squats to your home routine.

drink 300ml’s before and 600mls after and even 100mls inbetween. raquet sports(vigorous) 1hour each day. should be looking pretty fit after 3 weeks. you’ll see results after the first week though.

You can only build muscle through PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD. This means using weights or bodyweight to overload the muscle, ie make it work against resistance. Squash will build leg muscles to some degree, but not upper body. If you really want to build muscle, do pressups, dumbbell exercises, and make sure you’ve warmed up first, and use good technique. You ask about whey protein – yes it will help build muscle – drink straight after your exercise session.

    Hey,

To be honest, the simple answer is no. To build up muscle, you need to create micro-tears in the fibres through resistance training-lifting weights. Although squash will give you a wicked cardio workout, it will create a calorie deficit, meaning you will LOSE weight, and possibly muscle mass.

Whey protein is an effective source of the various amino acids that rebuild microscopic tears in muscles-if you don’t do weight training that instigates this growth, it won’t have any effect, other than possibly give you bad gas.

If you don’t like the gym, then build a home workout, things like press ups, pullups, squats, curls etc. start by doing that 3 times a week. After a while you’ll then work out if you want to stick at it, in which case you should look for some advice again.

    Hope that helps!
