What is that plastic thing on my Squash Racket?

I have a couple squash rackets and some of the newer ones have a soft piece of plastic attached to the strings. They are close to the neck, and can slide up and down. What is it used for?

it’s a shock absorber

This plastic thing is a vibration dampener . When you hit a ball the strings vibrate and it is carried though the racket into your hand. the piece of rubber absorbs the vibrations and can prevent pain and injury.
