How do you cook a large yellow squash?

I don’t know how to cook squash do i boil it or what?

First, wash the squash thoroughly. I would cut it in half lengthwise, remove the seeds, and place it in a baking dish, dot with butter, sprinkle on salt and pepper. Bake at 350 until a fork poked in the middle shows the squash is soft. (Cooked through.)

Squash is delicious. It is full of vitamins and fiber, also.

Here is the way I cook squash. I cut it into chunks (about 3 cups), one medium onion, diced. 1 15oz. can of diced tomates, one can of whole kernel corn, drained. Saute the squash and onion on medium high, in a little margarine or butter. Add the tomatoes and salt and pepper to taste. Saute just until the extra liquid in the tomatoes is absorbed, then add the corn and just heat. Don’t cook too long after adding corn, or it will toughen it. It tastes great and is a really colorful dish. I like it with roast chicken and mashed potatoes.

There are lots of ways you can cook squash. You can slice it and sautée it in a pan with some spices or a sauce. You can slice it and make a squash casserole. You can chop it into larger chunks and roast it in a 425 degree oven with plenty of salt on the chunks until they are tender. Or you can steam the squash with some other veggies, or you can boil it. The sky is the limit, experiment a bit to see what tastes and textures you like.

Well, I take a squash and cut it in half, then I scoop put all the seeds and fiber ,and then season it with cinnamon, sugar and real butter .Then I assemble it in a pan with a little water or chicken broth in the bottom of the pan, cover it with foil and bake it in the oven slowly at about 350 til it is soft and can be punctured with fork. ohhh the sugar can be brown or white, although the brown gives it better flavor. I do this with acorn squash as well as yellow.

Cut the squash in half. Clean out the seeds. Place butter and cinnomen on the squash. place in the oven at 400 for about 20 min. Check the squash with a fork to see if it is ready. The squash should fluff up with a fork and be soft when done.

I have also prepared the same way yet placed both half’s in the microwave for about 8 min. or until soft and ready.

Roasting is yummy, sauteed with other veggies also good, but my favorite guilty fried pleasure is to take squash and slice about 1/8-1/4 inch thick either in round discs or large slices longways (depending on how far I want it to stretch for the meal or appetizer) dredging it in seasoned flour or a flour and cheap parmesan cheese (in a canister) with some pepper. I personally double dredge, if you leave the squash sit for a few minutes after the first dredge (seasoned flour only on the 1st dredging if you go with the flour/parm mixture for the second dredging) and the moisture from the vegetable will have soaked back through the 1st coating and then light fry in olive oil. Enjoy!

again, depends on how you are looking to have it taste. Do you want it for a side dish or a dessert? It’s good either way, but how you cook it all depends on the how you plan on using it. I like to heat a bit of virgin olive oil and cut the squash into slices about 1/2 inch thick and sautee them in the oil just untill each side turns brown and a fork pierces them easily. But how you prepare it is up to you!! Have fun and enjoy ^_^

Yellow squash is considered to be a summer squash so it is good fresh in a salad or stir-fried or even boiled.
It is full of water so be careful not to overcook it or it will get mushy. Normally, summer squash such as yellow squash and zuchinni is sauteed or stir-fried instead of baked. Winter squashes like butternuts and acorns are great baked with cinnamon. My favorite way to prepare yellow squash is to slice it thin and saute it in olive or canola oil with onions, green and/or red peppers and zuchinni. This makes a colorful veggie dish that goes well with practically anything. Enjoy!!

My Dad loved squash, so I am answering this to honor the memory of my father.

For a long time! I tried baking some squash once and I let it cook for almost an hour and it was still hard. What a waste! Try boiling it first, then baking it, giving plenty (!) of time for it to get soft.

I like to cut it into thick slices. Marinate it in balsamic vinegar and grill it on the BBQ.
