ok, I know that I plated all pumpkin seeds, and yes, I know what they look like and everything, but 1 or 2 of my plants are growing squash. any known reason?
you could have had a few squash seeds mixed in with your pumplin seeds from the seed company and you never noticed when planting.
Thats my guess.
you may have planted the pumpkins too close to other plants & they cross pollinated

2 things could have happened here. you could hava few volunteer squash plants. Birds or rodents could have gragged the seeds there from somewhere else and they happened to end up where you planted your pumpkin. Or

The seeds for Squash and Pumpkins are very similar and a few of the Squash seeds probably got mixed in with your Pumpkin Seeds when they were being packaged for sale.

Even if there was cross pollination it wouldn’t be evident until the seeds grow next year. There were most likely a few squash seeds mixed in with the pumpkin seeds.
